IN THE WILD

START DATE: Jan 1st, 2017 | END DATE: Apr 23rd, 2017 | LOCATION: Blender Gallery

Danae Megreli presents her third solo exhibition titled "In the Wild". Through her works, she wishes to transport the viewer into a world which under different circumstances may seem hostile. Her main source of inspiration comes from the observation of wild animals and landscapes, and she selects certain species from the animal kingdom to become protagonists in her work. Danae addresses this new topic in her own distinctive way and brings to life the animal forms on her canvases. She aims at approaching the animals as much as possible and in a way to tame them and place them along the humans. The artist searches for similarities between humans and the expressions of the animals portrayed in her new works, and she creates the "society of the animal kingdom". In some cases, she chooses to depict figures that look straight into the eye of the viewer, while in other scenes she presents animals that act carefree in their own environment. Strong brushstrokes combined with faint outlines add up to the movement and liveliness of the animals. This is the third solo exhibition of Danae Megreli. As a respect towards the world of wild animals Danae is portraying, part of the proceeds will go to the Hellenic Wildlife Hospital (EKPAZ).

The exhibition is curated by Antheia Kotsi.
