Viewing Room: "Dual Identities, Female Deities"

The Blender Gallery presents the viewing room Dual Identities, Female Deities. The participating artists, Dimitra Bouritsa, Anna Charaktinou and Emily Gaki explore the hybrid nature of women and their mystique existence in a quest for a sense of atonement. All three artists stare at their femininity with candidness, immerse into the flow of their consciousness and emerge connected to the universe; to history, mythology, tradition, nature. In Bouritsa’s work, the female figure is dominant, either as in her human condition, either as a hybrid creature deriving from the fauna or flora kingdom, a creature between a monster and a deity. Charaktinou's fragile compositions, filled with surreal cues, seem to be taken out of the artist's personal Garden of Eden, a place of divine enlightenment that occurs internally. Gaki, fascinated by the worldly systems of faith and worship, explores the rituality embedded in female consciousness.
