Viewing Room : Wooden Intersections
Earthy yet imposing, Christos Tzaferos' series of wooden wall sculptures captures the gaze without restricting the mind. Materiality and alternate perceptions of space is always at the forefront of his art.
Street art and the graffiti culture might be the initial source of inspiration for the patterns & motifs that characterise the work of Chris Tzaferos (aka SIMEK), but visual cues from the worlds of architecture, graphic design, typography and calligraphy are also deeply embedded in his abstract compositions. Tzaferos' palette focuses on black and white, as well as the natural colour of the surface or material his is working on, therefore giving emphasis to the form. Geometry, parallel lines, negative space, patterns, glitches are the essence of his often monochromatic compositions.
His work includes public & interior murals, paintings on canvases, papers, woods, interior design, metals & installations. Materiality and alternate perceptions of space is always at the forefront of the artists process when creating. Although his work is instantly recognisable as his own, he is always experimenting with new design methods.
