Alexis Avlamis

Avlamis starts from one corner of the canvas, and as he adds, coats, collects and manufactures, the project grows and matures just like a biological organism. He synthesizes natural, artificial and fantastic shapes, fabricating dreamlike machines, utopian environments and diversified landscapes. In this process he imagines himself exploring the topography and the characteristics of these places. Τhe artist is influenced by the Surrealists Automatism. Through intuition, he organically constructs “landscapes of the mind” aiming at a cosmic unity, where existing and fabricated visuals come together. The circle is a recurring shape in his works, manifested as an infinite amount, the most perfect of creative forms, which contains the wholeness of nature. Avlamis holds a BFA degree with honors from the Athens School of Fine Arts (2002). Exhibitions, art fairs and residencies both in Greece and abroad followed. He currently lives and creates at his “sanctuary” farm in the Ionian island of Kefalonia, experiencing nature and its biodiversity there. Avlamis is a laureate of the International Emerging Artist Award, which saw his works exhibited in Dubai and Brussels. He has attended artist residencies in China, United States and Finland, has been published and interviewed internationally (most notable Art21's blog: Inside the Artist's Studio) and works may be found in private and museum collections, such as the Djurhuus Collection, Denmark and the Henan Art Museum’s collection, China.
